Human-Centered DAOs: Coh3rence’s Vision for Inclusive Decision-Making

In a recent interview on Cryptocanal Radio, Gustavo Segovia, Coh3rence Summoner & Instigator (aka Founder) shared insights into the mission, values, and transformative potential of Coh3rence—a project designed to revolutionize Change Management, and governance for any organization willing to effectively include their people in the decision making process, a campaign oriented not only for decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) and Web3 communities, but for any organization that is willing to place humanity at the core of their strategies. With deep roots in blockchain governance and conflict resolution, Gustavo explained how Coh3rence aims to bridge technological and human aspects of governance, helping organizations create inclusive and effective decision-making processes.

A Journey from Technology to Human-Centered Governance

Gustavo’s journey began with a fascination for blockchain’s potential to democratize decision-making, an interest that grew from personal experiences and concerns about traditional governance. As he noted, centralized systems often fall short, as individuals in power may make decisions based on limited perspectives or personal gain. This realization led him to blockchain, where he saw an opportunity to create collaborative systems with multiple, equally valued decision-makers.

Over time, Gustavo’s passion evolved, leading him to regenerative finance (ReFi) projects and ultimately to founding Coh3rence. Here, he has combined technology with a commitment to addressing the “human layer” of governance, emphasizing that technology alone cannot solve issues like emotional triggers, biases, and conflicts that can impede group decisions.

Coh3rence’s Mission: Transforming Governance from the Inside Out

At its core, Coh3rence aims to provide DAOs with a framework for inclusive, trauma-informed, and empathetic decision-making. According to Gustavo, “Coh3rence facilitates meetings where we aggregate the perspectives of everyone involved, allowing us to create a shared truth among community members.” This approach not only strengthens decisions but also fosters a sense of belonging among participants.

Coh3rence utilizes several innovative methodologies, including Formal Consensus and Authentic Communication, to encourage members to listen actively, empathize, and address disagreements constructively. By shifting the focus from voting to voicing concerns and collaboratively resolving them, Coh3rence creates a space where every voice is heard and valued, reducing the potential for divisive, majority-driven outcomes.

Bridging the Gap between Technology and Human Needs

One of the main challenges for DAOs is achieving true alignment among their stakeholders. Gustavo explains that traditional decision-taking mechanisms, like token-based voting, often lead to “51% rule” outcomes, where a simple majority can override significant minority concerns. Coh3rence counters this with tools to facilitate deeper understanding and shared decision-making, which encourages long-term commitment and cohesion among members.

Gustavo shared insights into Colony’s Lazy Consensus and Moloch DAO’s Rage Quit—two models that inspired aspects of Coh3rence. Lazy Consensus allows proposals to proceed unless contested, while Rage Quit enables members to withdraw if they disagree fundamentally. Such models align well with Coh3rence’s ethos, which aims to bring awareness about conflict possibilities by facilitating open, inclusive discussions well before decisions are finalized.

Building a Community-First Ecosystem

Looking forward, Coh3rence’s vision is to cultivate a community of facilitators skilled in governance methodologies such as Sociocracy and Holacracy, but also professionals and coaches skilled in holistic tools for human connection and growth, we need people who are prepared to address the human complexities of decentralized governance. Coh3rence’s approach is holistic, targeting both organizational and individual needs. By addressing personal challenges and biases that may arise in governance, the project supports more cohesive and functional organizations.

The invitation is also open of course to individuals passionate about conflict transformation and community building to join Coh3rence’s mission. As he described, the organization serves as a platform for personal and collective growth, where facilitators guide DAOs to become self-sustaining, empathetic communities. We don’t want Conflict Resolution practitioners that are happy when the issue is disolved only on the surface, but Conflict Transformation professionals, alchemists that enables the re-generation of peace rooted in deep and compassionate justice.

Join Coh3rence’s Movement for Inclusive Governance

In closing, Gustavo encouraged everyone to believe in humanity’s potential for positive change and to view conflicts as opportunities for growth and understanding. Coh3rence.org (with a “3” in place of the first “e” 😃) serves as the project’s online hub, where people interested in learning more about inclusive governance or joining the mission can connect.

As Coh3rence continues to expand, it invites DAOs, Web3 companies, and anyone committed to decentralization to explore its resources and join in reshaping governance for a more inclusive, transparent, and compassionate future.
